Last year I did the 100 Day Project. It’s a free global art project using Instagram to share 100 days of whatever one chooses to work on for 100 days. I did two projects, one with each of my two children. Neither project was militant. If we didn’t do it, we didn’t do it.
One of the projects was 100 Days of Sweetie Feet. I photographed my son’s feet in whatever childhood adventures we landed in each day. It was his last year before going off to kindergarten, and I could feel his smallness slipping through my fingers. You can see some of those posts if you search the hashtag #100daysofsweetiefeet on Instagram.
My daughter and I did #100daysofdamowriting (100 Days of Daughter-Mother writing). She had started making the story that she wasn’t a good writer. I’m a writer. It worked. You can search that hashtag as well, if you want to see some of our work. She would start, then I would add, or vice versa. We wrote a story about a girl named Kira and some of the odd and magical things she encountered in her ordinary life and neighborhood.
You can also search with the hashtag #100dayproject and the most recent images posted by anyone who’s participating will show up. It’s a well of inspiration.
A lot has changed since last April, and I am looking forward to at least one little soft, bright spot each day. This year, I’ll be doing my own project; #100daysofpicsandwords. Art zone is a special place in my brain, and I love it there, but I don’t step outside of writing very often. I’ll be making myself do non-writing, but I will allow myself to add words if it feels right.
Lately, my brain has been glitching out, legitimately. I intend to give it a little love, not push it, and let it make a few surprises. Let’s see what happens next.
Since I’m off to a late start, it’s important to let you know that you can start late, too. From https://www.the100dayproject.org/: “Create and post every day until July 11th. It’s okay if you miss a day! Keep going. Reading this after April 3rd? Any day is a good day to start #The100DayProject!”
You should try it, and if you do, follow me on Instagram at tanya.breathes and let me know. I’ll watch what you’re up to, as well.
