When the going gets tough…
Well, it’s already tough. A significant portion of us have experienced trauma, traumas, or chronic stress. Some of us have experienced them early, repetitively, and often.
Trauma disrupts our ability to lay down healthy roots. We can call it personality disorder, PTSD, adverse childhood experiences, and/or attachment dysregulation. We can call it whatever we want, but it doesn’t change the truth, which is that it’s hard, and that at least is very true.
It’s disrupted rooting. Glitchy attachment to that which nourishes us.
Some bushes have a pancake-style root system. There are tumbleweeds. There are tap roots. Grass roots. We talk a lot about roots.
Sometimes we have to dig. Clarity is difficult to find. Here, let me tell you something…it’s not always about the root system. It’s about how we nourish ourselves.
Plants need water, air, and sun. Good soil, full of nutrients. Give yourself at least that much.
Know the difference between that which benefits you, and that which does not. Choose wisely, and prepare for adversity. We all have the capacity to flourish.
