I didn’t vote for Barack Obama because of:
my race
my religion
my gender or sexuality
my feelings on taxation
my health care needs
my partisanship
my job/career/employment future
my right to manage my own body, as a woman
my fears
I voted for him because I have young children and these things need to be respected for them, their future, and the future of this large body of people I am a tiny part of. At the end of the day, it’s not about me. It’s not about my money. It’s about the greater good and hope for what can happen if respect can preside and judgment can be set aside. Call me naive, but my children deserve a future as free of hate, fear, and oppression as is humanly possible.
